The agency, which is part of the Brisbane City Council, said Fraser joined Brisbane EDA five and a half years ago and had served in the role of chief executive for the past four years.

In the past 18 months, he had refocussed Brisbane EDA and delivered the 2031 Visitor Economy Strategy and the Brisbane Business Hub.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner commended Fraser for the considerable contribution he has made to the city through his work at Brisbane EDA.

“I want to thank Brett for his leadership as well as his unwavering commitment to promoting the benefits of living, visiting and doing business in Brisbane,” Schrinner said.

“Brett has spearheaded and overseen many significant changes and initiatives which have underpinned Brisbane’s bounce back after COVID-19 and helped to strengthen consumer and business confidence.”

Mr Fraser said he was proud of what Brisbane EDA achieved and what he had overseen during the past five years.

“I leave the organisation in a strong position,’’ Fraser said.

“I am enormously proud of the Brisbane EDA team and the way they have implemented the necessary changes to refocus the organisation post COVID-19.”

Brisbane EDA will undertake a recruitment process to identify a new CEO for the organisation.

The council said the new CEO would take carriage of delivering high-impact growth initiatives to ensure the continued rebuilding of Brisbane’s economy and putting Brisbane in the best position for sustained growth to support the residents and businesses of the city.

Until such time, Brisbane EDA’s general manager of tourism, business and major events, Juliet Alabaster has been appointed interim CEO.

Mr Fraser will remain CEO until 2 July 2021 to ensure a smooth transition.
