It also won the award for the best airport staff Australia and Pacific for the fourth time, chief executive Gert-Jan de Graaff said.

Melbourne was second in the awards and the Gold Coast came in eighth and in the global rankings Brisbane finished 22nd ahead of Melbourne at 26th. The Gold Coast was 81st.

The global best airport was awarded to Doha, Qatar, followed by Tokyo’s Haneda and Singapore’s Changi.

The awards were decided by the votes from travellers in a customer satisfaction survey.

de Graaff said the awards reflected BNE’s commitment to exceeding the expectations of its customers.

“The last few years have been tough on our people and for our industry, yet despite these challenges we are proceeding with some really exciting new leisure, retail and commercial projects on the airport precinct.” de Graaff said.

“More than $2.5 billion will be invested at BNE over the next five years which will enhance our reputation as Australia’s vibrant 24/7 airport city.”
